SCIP08 Evaluations
Arik Johnson provided a comprehensive write up of his take on SCIP's 2008 conference over at the CI "Ning" site, and commenters on his post are providing their own take as well.
Arik's brother Derek is the co-conference chair for SCIP09 so I'm sure he'll be paying attention to the feedback available on Ning and elsewhere.

ning! you mean the same ning that hosts over 4 thousand porn networks?

Thanks for the link Jon and thanks for joining the site the other day. It seems to be picking up some momentum following SCIP08 and hopefully will be nice, neutral ground where people can congregate and talk about CI a little more openly without any barriers to membership discouraging participation.
Thus far, it's been a very international mix as well so not dominated by U.S. voices either, which has been a criticism sometimes elsewhere. We seem to have 85%+ ex-USA in terms of membership so far.
See you online and all the best in the new job, Jon.
Take care,
- Arik

Well Dave I guess it's no different than saying that the web is home to a gazillion porn sites and to a few others as well. Ning's merely a platform and I'm sure there are all kinds of nefarious and legitimate uses for it.
Thanks Arik. I'm glad to see that people are being pretty even handed with the evaluations of the conference, and I also think it's valuable feedback for the staff at SCIP and for your brother (and August and the rest of the committee) as they plan next year's conference.
